What’s Missing from Star Wars: Legion? Repacks, Discontinued Units, and What Might Return

As we approach the final round of announcements for the new edition of Star Wars: Legion, it feels like the right time to reflect on the current state of the product line. Specifically: which units are missing, which might be coming back, and what this all means for players trying to build their armies in 2025 and beyond.

This isn’t about rules, tactics, or balance. This is a look at availability — what’s out of print, what might be getting repackaged, and what could quietly fade away.

AMG’s Communication and what we know

Let’s set expectations before diving in: AMG has recently done a great job increasing their community engagement. Through podcast appearances, convention interviews, and event panels, we’ve heard more from the team than ever before.

They’ve gone on record saying that if a model isn’t currently being reprinted, it doesn’t mean it’s invalid for play, nor does it mean it will never be reprinted or redesigned. That leaves room for interpretation — and speculation — which is what this article is all about.

Pre-Assembled Kits Likely to Be Reworked

Beyond the soft plastic kits we know are being phased out, I expect we’ll also see the temporary removal of pre-assembled plastic kits — models like the T-47 Airspeeder and 74-Z Speeder Bikes that came with the main airframe already glued together.

That kind of pre-assembly introduces major manufacturing complexity. These kits were likely cast on large sprues, partially built at a dedicated station, and then packed — a completely different pipeline than standard sprue-based models.

To bring them in line with the newer packaging and production process, AMG would likely need to redesign the sprues entirely, which takes time and budget. My guess? These repacks could arrive in Q2 2026, potentially alongside a wave of Hoth-themed releases like:

  • New Tauntaun Riders to accompany Han & Luke

  • Updated Rebel Veterans & Snowtroopers

  • A redesigned Echo Base or Blizzard Force battleforce

  • E-Web and FD Laser Cannon repacks

If AMG wants to push a big Empire Strikes Back as a Tent Pole Release (something they mentioned at the GAMA Trade Show), this would be the perfect time to do it — and possibly even tie in with some Shatterpoint releases as well.

We all want more Hoth right?

Upgrade Packs and Specialist Units — A Shift in Approach?

Now for a slightly more controversial prediction: the Upgrade Packs and Specialist boxes may not return as we know them.

AMG seems to be moving away from the vague “Specialist” format in favor of more clearly defined hero boxes, like the Rebel Heroes and Imperial High Command kits. It wouldn’t surprise me to see these boxes replaced with more faction-themed or era-themed options, which would also:

  • Help with store merchandising and recognition (easier to differentiate than a Specialist or Upgrade box)

  • Reduce SKU confusion (especially for non-gamers working retail)

  • Align with AMG’s preference for repackaging and sprue reuse

I could easily imagine something like a “Stormtrooper Heavy Response Unit” release — perhaps available as Support in standard lists and Corps in Blizzard Force — to replace some of the older Heavy Weapon options and offer a fresh take.

Will Droideka, ARC Troopers, or AT-RTs Return?

Let’s talk specifics:

Droideka & ARC Troopers

These seem like easy wins. I expect a straight repack, similar to what we’ve seen with B2 Battle Droids and Clone Commander Cody — just updated packaging, multilingual cards and where needed extra sprues.

There’s potential to optimize the Droideka sprues, possibly combining the ball and standing forms, or even redesigning them to reduce waste, We might even see something like the Crab Droid box that included two units in a single box.

I mean, the box comes with a Ball token, it’s like FFG knew we wouldn’t be building all of them…

AT-RTs

These may require a bit more effort. The soft plastic components will need to go, and I expect a cross-faction repack similar to:

  • The AT-ST dual-faction box

  • Wookiee Warriors (Rebel/Republic)

A smart move here would be adding a new pilot sprue with both Rebel and Clone riders. But that adds tooling costs, so I’d expect this to be a later 2025 or 2026 release.

Why Some Units Are Going “Missing”

So why are these changes happening? A few reasons:

  • Soft plastic phase-out means retooling is necessary.

  • Pre-assembled kits require extra labor and complexity.

  • SKU bloat makes logistics harder for stores and distributors.

None of this spells doom for the game. If anything, it’s a sign of growth and long-term planning. These units are likely gone for now, not forever.

What This Means for Players

If you’re new to Legion or returning after a break, it might be frustrating not to find some of your favorite units. But there are a few silver linings:

  • OOP units are still legal to play.

  • Battleforces are becoming easier onboarding paths.

  • Repackaged versions may return better than ever.

In the meantime, savvy players can:

  • Hunt around online for stores with older stock

  • Trade or buy second-hand through local groups

  • Most importantly: stay calm and don’t panic

It’s happening, we are getting the big box of B2’s!

Final Thoughts: The Future Looks Bright (If a Bit Delayed)

While we may not see every unit back on shelves right away, this isn’t a sign of decline — it’s the result of product line restructuring and smarter long-term planning.

These kinds of transitions take time. But once they land, they’ll likely be better for stores, players, and the overall health of the game.

And who knows? Maybe AMG still has a few surprises up its sleeve for new battleforces, thematic waves, or reimagined classics.
